Have you been considering CBD Oil for sleep?

From time to time, all of us will have experienced a bad night’s sleep. But for those who regularly struggle to fall to sleep or wake several times in the night, living with insomnia is no walk in the park. The lack of sleep saps away all your energy and enthusiasm for the day ahead. You may feel fuzzy headed or anxious.  And there are a myriad of reasons why you could be lying awake at night.

There are a variety of over-to-counter and prescribed medications to help, of course. But these meds may not work for you, be addictive or give you unwelcome side effects. If you have suffered with insomnia for a while, you have probably tried a range of lifestyle changes too: from mediation, to ditching caffeine and alcohol, reducing screen time or changing up your routine. Still, if you are not sure what triggers your wakefulness at night, it can be a hard nut to crack.

A new way to get a good night’s sleep

Since its recent rise to fame in the UK, CBD is becoming a particularly popular remedy for insomniacs.

CBD is commonly used to help reduce anxiety and pain. But studies suggest CBD can do much more. There are indications CBD can help with falling asleep and staying asleep.

Research on CBD and sleep

First off, we always want to be transparent with our customers: more research is needed before we can know the full picture on CBD. Whilst CBD research is still in its infancy, studies indicate that it has promising benefits for wellness.

Early studies show CBD has potential for improving sleep when taken at higher daily doses.

Researchers have found that those suffering from insomnia experienced higher levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, at night. In one study, researchers found that cortisol levels decreased significantly when participants took CBD oil. This would suggest that CBD affects the release of cortisol, possibly acting as a sedative.

What about when CBD does not improve your sleep?

Whilst CBD seems to help with relaxation and promotes sleep, it can have the opposite effect in a minority of people. This is not unique to CBD: medicines and supplements can have different effects on different people. Some anti-histamines, for example, can help some people sleep yet make others wide awake.

On the other end of the spectrum, there have been reports that some experience fatigue when taking CBD. This is possibly due to dosage. If you take CBD and it does not have the desired effect, change your dose or stop completely.
